Route Announced for the 2011 Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay

Atlanta, GA--  (submitted by the Atlanta Track Club)  The Atlanta Track Club (ATC), organizer of the AJC Peachtree Road Race and the Atlanta Half Marathon and Thanksgiving Day 5K, announced the course for the 2011 Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay which will take place on Sunday, October 30. 

The challenging 26.2 mile loop course starts and finishes at Atlantic Station near Midtown Atlanta and takes participants on a tour of the city past well-known Atlanta sites such as Georgia Tech, CNN Center, Philips Arena, Georgia Aquarium, the State Capitol Building, Turner Field and The King Center as well as through several Atlanta neighborhoods including Castleberry Hill, Grant Park, Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, Virginia-Highland, Morningside and Buckhead.  The four-person Atlanta Marathon Relay will be run on the same course as the Atlanta Marathon with each of the four legs ranging in distance from 5.5 miles to 8.4 miles.   

All Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay participants receive a long-sleeve performance shirt as well as a commemorative finisher’s medal.  In addition, Atlanta Marathon finishers receive a special pint glass featuring the sites they’ll pass along the course.  Registration for the Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay is available at atlantamarathon.org and will remain open through Wednesday, October 26, 2011.  View the 2011 Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay course map.
