FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The NFL football season is still months away, but that doesn't mean teams aren't gearing up for the upcoming season.  The Atlanta Falcons will host cheerleader autions this weekend for the 2011 season.

The auditions will be held Sunday, March 20th at the Georgia World Congress Center.  Those auditions come only after weeks of preparation for Falcons cheerleader prospects hoping to make the final squad.  Applicants for the Faclons cheerleaders have been busy with audition prep classes leading up to this weekend's final audition.

"The Falcons are searching for ladies again who epitomize the "New South" - young, glamorous, hip, attractive and intelligent," the team said in a news release.

The Falcons have tapped two-year cheerleader Sara D. to chronicle the auditions through a blog hosted on AtlantaFalcons.com.  "The idea behind this audition diary is to give you, faithful Falcons fans, insight into the process," she wrote in her first entry.  "It’s not a walk in the park and it’s a nerve-wracking, intense process for all those who participate. I want to open the door to show you the inside of auditions, and all of the emotional, mental and physical effort that we pour into them."

Last year the Falcons cheerleaders revamped their program with a new approach and uniforms, the organization said.  Cheerleaders could be seen greeting fans at the gates and visiting fans in the stands.  The squad plans to continue to increase interaction with the fans in the coming season.
