ATLANTA -- More than 23 percent of the classrooms at M. Agnes Jones Elementary School were flagged for cheating on the 2009 CRCT, according to a report released Tuesday.
Several teachers confessed to cheating and witnesses claimed that they heard teachers prompting students to erase and change answers on the test. (296)
Demetrius Barnes, a second grade teacher, told investigators that fellow teachers Corliss Love and Precious Moon conspired to "open the vault and look at testing materials" in 2006. Love and Moon had copies of the Fifth Grade Writing Test well before it was given. When Barnes threatened to report them, he "began receiving poor evaluations and was moved from the upper grades to the lower grades," according to the report. (297)
Investigators concluded that principal Margul Woolfolk did not know of the widespread cheating at M. Agnes Jones and that she actually alerted the proper authorities when cheating was brought to her attention. (301)
According to the school's website, Woolfolk is still principal of M. Agnes Jones Elementary.
