New Southern-style restaurant to open downtown

New Southern-style restaurant to open downtown

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Development Authority (ADA) has closed a $125,000 loan that will open a new restaurant and create 50 jobs.

The money will help Brewed to Serve Restaurant Group, Inc. open White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails in early 2012.

Brewed to Serve also own Max Lager's Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery.

Cindy and Alan LeBlanc, owners of White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails, will use the ADA-sponsored loan to help pay for renovation of the restaurant space. They estimate the cost of the renovations to be roughly $1.3 million.

The loan is significant because it is helping the LeBlancs bring a new restaurant into a space that has been vacant for several years.

Willy's famous Chicken Tortilla Soup is back

ATLANTA -- It's getting cold outside, but it'll be warm in Willy's Mexicana Grill restaurants all winter, now that the famous Chicken Tortilla Soup is back on the menu.

The soup is made from scratch daily and features corn, garlic, jalapeños, onions, tomato purée, chicken broth, spices and white corn tortillas; the tortillas make the soup thick and creamy, meaning that there is no need to add cream to it.

A bowl of soup costs $4.50. The popular recipe will be served through the spring of 2012.

Reading is SWEET! campaign ends Monday

ATLANTA -- October is both National Book Month and National Cookie Month, so why not combine the two into a sweet book drive?

The second annual Reading is SWEET! National Book Drive, sponsored by Great American Cookies, runs through Monday, Oct. 31.

Throughout the month, the stores collected new and gently used books to be donated to local charities and public libraries. Everyone who donated a book received a free cookie.

"Last year's Reading is SWEET! program was a huge success, thanks to the efforts of our store owners, customers and community partners," said Jenn Johnston, chief marketing & operations officer for GFG Management, which manages Great American Cookies. "We're excited to continue the event for 2011 and can't wait to see how many books we can collect and how many cookies we can give away."
