Atlanta Beltline Inc., to give Current Status of the Beltline Project on 12/8

Atlanta, GA--  (submitted by the Atlanta Institute of Architects)  At the next AIA Principals Roundtable, Brian Leary, President and CEO of Atlanta BeltLine, Inc., will give a presentation on the current status of the overall Atlanta BeltLine program, progress to date, challenges that lie ahead and what the program means to future development in the Atlanta area

The breakfast meeting will take place from 7:30-9:15 am, at the Ansley Golf Club.

Join Councilman Hall for the Groundbreaking of a 4 Acre Urban Farm in O4W

Atlanta, GA--  City dwellers will soon be able to receive all the trappings of the country life with the addition of a new 4 acre urban garden.  The site will be called The Truly Living Well Wheat Street Garden and Mayor Reed and others will breakground on Sunday 12/5 at 2pm. 

The site came into fruition via an agreement with the Wheat Street Baptist Church to lease the 4 acres in the historic Old 4th Ward.  The site is to serve as not only a working/profitable farm but also a learning center to help educate the surrounding community about healthy eating.

The site, which used to be a housing project, will now grow vegetables in regenerated soil, raised beds, greenhouses and hoop houses.

The work is being funded by generous investment from the Arthur M.Blank Foundation and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Keep America Beautiful(KAB) Celebrates 11/15 as America Recycles Day!

Atlanta,GA--  More than 2,500* local community-based events will be held November 15 this year across the nation. America Recycles Day activities include collection drives, educational presentations, employee awareness events, displays, tours contests and other recycling awareness activities.

Keep America Beautiful is a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments. With a national network of nearly 1,000 local affiliates and participating organizations, KAB combines education with hands-on stewardship to address the needs of communities on an intensely local and effective level. www.kab.org

Installation Continues for Downtown Atlanta's Winter Holiday Ice Rink

Atlanta, GA--  On November 19th Atlantans will be able to go to Centennial Park and enjoy ice skating with friends and family.  Currently in the last week of installation, the rink will be enclosed in a 30 by 40 meter tent, and will itself be a 108 by 60 foot ice skating rink.

Once the ice rink is open, visitors can enjoy covered observation seating, theatrical lighting on the real ice and holiday music. The ice rink is open daily through Jan. 30, 2010, including all holidays. Admission is $7 per person for 90 minutes of skate time and skate rental is an additional $2. College student and group discounts are available.

The Atlanta BeltLine is Breaking Ground on the Eastside Trail, 10/30 at 10am

Atlanta, GA--  The Atlanta BeltLine is breaking ground on one of the most talked-about developments in Atlanta, the Eastside Trail.  The groundbreaking ceremony will mark the beginning of construction on the 2.5-mile segment of trail running from DeKalb Avenue to 10th Street and Monroe Drive at the tip of Piedmont Park, which is projected to be complete in summer of 2011.

The new Eastside Trail will be a 14-foot wide concrete multi-use trail in the Atlanta BeltLine right-of-way which will connect Piedmont Park, the new Historic Fourth Ward Park which is now under construction, and the Freedom Park trail.

Flash Mob Startles and Entertains at the Atlanta Airport for Marriott's "Get Connected"

Atlanta, GA--  Travelers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport were surprised today by a pop-up performance from a 40-member singing, dancing flash mob promoting the grand opening of the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway, which is connected to the airport via the new ATL SkyTrain.
