Mayor: Peach drop isn't canceled, after all

ATLANTA -- With just two weeks to go until New Year's Eve, Atlanta's mayor says the city's traditional Peach Drop will happen on schedule.

The New Year's Eve tradition at Underground Atlanta has been in question since the property was sold to WRS Inc. Real Estate Investments out of South Carolina. The sale won't go through until after New Year's Eve, so the property remains in the hands of the city of Atlanta.

Reed said he didn't have any specifics about the New Year's Eve event, but said it will be held at Underground Atlanta. "I don’t have any details at all because we’re in the process of producing it. But, we’ve had the Peach Drop for 27 years. We have one of the four largest New Year’s celebrations in the United States, a fact that I learned when I said that we simply would not have the Peach Drop," Reed said.
