Arrest made in Pine Street murder of Guardsman

ATLANTA -- Atlanta police have arrested a suspect in a fatal shooting near the downtown Peachtree-Pine homeless shelter.

Harold Dodson, 21, was arrested on Friday at 2060 Bolton Road, NW, in connection with the fatal Aug. 30 shooting of Georgia Army National Guard Sgt. Atting Eminue.

Investigators said Eminue, 24, of Lawrenceville and a woman were walking back to their car around 1:30 a.m. His family said Eminue was trying to donate shoes to the shelter before he went home, and that he had often donated what he could to the homeless.  Witnesses told police that he and the other man argued, and that the other man pulled a gun and shot them both before running away. Eminue died at the scene.

According to the Army Times, Eminue was a sergeant with the Georgia Army National Guard who served three tours in Afghanistan. He most recently served with 877th Engineer Company, based out of Augusta, and made deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010, 2013 and 2014. He served previously with 848th Engineer Company.

Eminue's father spoke with 11Alive News Monday.  He hopes police will let him meet Dodson, face to face, because, as he said in the video accompanying this story, he has a few messages for Dodson.
