ATLANTA -- A Grammy-nominated singer joined in a protest in downtown Atlanta on Monday.

Janelle Monae has been attending anti- police brutality rallies and marches around the country this summer while on tour. On Monday, the Atlanta-based artist joined activists and members of the community in Woodruff Park.

The rally featured the parents and family members of people killed by police officers.

Felicia Thomas, mother Of Nicholas Thomas -- a man shot by police earlier this year -- offered an emotional plea.

A group called "The Coalition For Better Public Governance" is holding a rally in Decatur Tuesday to show support for local police.
