ATLANTA (WXIA) – Nearly 40 people protested near CNN Center in downtown Atlanta Friday night.

It coincided with a police chief's conference where the protesters are demanding justice in the deaths of victims like Anthony Hill. The mentally disturbed Hill was shot to death by a police officer at a DeKalb County apartment complex on Monday.

Former Ambassador Andrew Young spoke to the crowd leaving the meeting.

"It's unnecessary and tragic, but it comes with building rapport and helping the police point out who the real criminals are," Young said. "These are not your enemies. They get blamed, too."

DeKalb County's Director of Public Safety, Dr. Cedric Alexander, was also among those at Friday night's conference. Alexander has been serving on President Obama's task force to better unite police departments with local communities around the nation.
