Area football teams get ready for kickoff

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The upcoming weekend marks the beginning of the Georgia High School football season for some area teams. 

Ten state title contenders will be taking the field at the Georgia Dome for the Annual Corky Kell Classic on Saturday. 

The ten teams include: Chattahoochee, Grayson, Brookwood, McEachren, Walton, Colquitt County, Camden County, Kell, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge. 

The Grayson Rams played a perfect 15-0, last year, and won the 5A crown. And again this year, the Rams have a full deck with the the nation's #1 high school player, Robert Nkemdiche on their team. 

The Rams will open against McEachern at 11:45 a.m. at the Georgia Dome. 

Walton, the team that lost to Grayson in the championship game will open their season against the Brookwood Broncos. The Walton Raiders are being led by Alabama commits Parker McLeod and Tyren Jones at quarterback and running back, respectively. 

The Raiders and the Broncos are set to go head-to-head at 8:30 p.m. at the Georgia Dome. 

11Alive's will begin High School Football coverage on Friday night with the match-up between 2011's 4A champion Tucker Tigers and the Cedar Grove Saints. The Tigers and the Saints will take the field at Hallford Stadium. 

The Tigers are debuting new head coach Bryan Lamar, who comes back to Tucker from Stockbridge High in Henry County.

Friday Night Lights is 11Alive's weekly high school sports show. The show will feature game highlights, scores, and Athlete of the Week segment and an Alumnus of the Week segment.

On Friday, 11Alive's Friday Night Lights will host the Peachtree Ridge High School Varsity Cheerleading Squad and the Tri-Cities Bulldog Marching Band in studio.
