WXIA -- Although Georgia's unemployment rate has improved in the past couple of months however many Americans are still in search of employment.
Many larger companies have said that they have the resources for new hires, but are not finding the level of talent their businesses require. So where's the solution?
Maximize your time during your job search to make yourself a more marketable candidate by taking a training course or becoming proficient in a computer software program.
The Department of Labor and many non-profit or 501(c)(3) organizations offer free sessions, online training and classes across the state of Georgia that may be the perfect fit for yourself and your career goals.
The 11Alive Help Desk has been working to find these options for the people of the Metro Atlanta:
First, visit the Georgia Department of Labor's website, where they have training sessions and seminars scheduled almost daily. For example, our Help Desk found that this Wednesday, August 15 the Georgia Department of Labor is hosting a Social Media Seminar in Dublin. On the 16 they're hosting a career and education expo in Clarkston. Visit DOL to see a listing of other training opportunities and apprenticeships.
Next, check out the online calendars on your local library's web site. The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library offers free computer classes to its card holders that offer different software training classes such as how to use Microsoft Excel. The library also offers free test preparation books and materials and language and literacy classes.
The DeKalb County Library System offers a wide range of computer classes including one specifically intended for job seeking members.
Most libraries across the state offer similar classes and training.
The Office of Governor Nathan Deal also has resources for those just entering the workforce. GoBuildGeorgia focuses on assisting those interested in construction and contracting careers, while Georgia Workready provides online resources and resume writing help for Georgia job seekers.
