ATLANTA -- Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas is feeling the love from around the world, including Spelman College.
For the last week, social media sites have been lighting up with a picture of Douglas holding a Spelman College gift bag. The bag was presented to her by Coca-Cola executive Helen Smith Price, a Spelman alum.
Spelman president Dr. Beverly Tatum calls the bag a "last-minute decision," a thought that occurred to her while packing for her three-day trip to the London Olympic Games.
She adds, despite some media reports, the school is not "heavily recruiting" Douglas.
"We don't have a gymnastics team, we're not looking for a star of our gymnastics team," Dr. Tatum said.
"But we are certainly interested in young women with the kind of drive and discipline that she obviously has."
The gift bag included a Spelman t-shirt, a CD with a song performed by the school's glee club, and a handwritten note from Dr. Tatum.
In the note, the school's president congratulated Douglas on her gold medals and invited her to visit Spelman when she begins her college search.
