Atlantan Preps For Fifth Paralympics

ATLANTA, Ga. - - Curtis Lovejoy was terrified of the water the first time he sat pool side at Shepherd Center.  More than 25 years later, he views the water as the place where he leaves his wheelchair and disabilities behind.

Lovejoy is preparing for his fifth Paralympics, the competition that comes on the heels of the Olympics in London.  He will first fly to an American military base in Germany, then go on to London.

A 1986 auto accident changed but didn't ruin his outlook on life.  During the course of his therapy at Shepherd, Lovejoy was taken to the pool where he sat weaing a life jacket, afraid to get into the water.

"Then I had a dream, I saw medals going around my neck." The rest as they say is history.  He won two gold medals in Sydney in 2000.  At his age, he's a long shot to medal in London but that won't diminish his joy.

"If it happens, it happens, if not, I'll just enjoy the moment".  Curtis Lovejoy could give us all a lesson about how to do that.
