Georgia State University to join Sun Belt Conference | News
ATLANTA -- It's official -- Georgia State University will re-join the Sun Belt Conference. The football team will now compete on the FBS level.
The Sun Belt extended an offer to GSU on Friday and the university accepted it that same day. The Panthers made it official during a press conference held on Monday afternoon at the Georgia Dome.
The Sun Belt Conference includes schools like Florida Atlantic, FIU, Arkansas State and Middle Tennessee.
Georgia State University was one of the six founding members of the Sun Belt Conference in 1976; the school left the conference in 1981.
As of July 2013, all 19 varsity sports will compete in the Sun Belt Conference.
