Police arrest first suspect in videotaped beating | News

ATLANTA -- Atlanta police made the first arrest Saturday in the videotaped beating of a gay man in the Pittsburgh community last weekend.

Police said Christopher Cain, 18, was taken into custody without incident in the DeKalb County portion of Atlanta and around midnight.

Cain was charged with aggravated assault and robbery and transported to the Fulton County Jail.

"With the assistance of tips received through Crime Stoppers Atlanta, police have also identified two other suspects, currently wanted for aggravated assault and armed robbery," said police spokesman Carlos Campos. 

The violent video posted to the Internet shows several men punching and kicking 20-year-old Brandon White and shouting homophobic slurs outside JVC Grocery and Deli at the corner of Delevan and McDaniel streets.

White spoke to the media Wednesday, as did several prominent members of the Pittsburgh community where the beating took place. They condemned the attack and say they hope to "take back" the neighborhood and eliminate gang violence once and for all.

A "peace rally" is scheduled to take place in the Pittsburgh community on Saturday morning.
