11 Facts about Vegetables

11 Facts about Vegetables

When I was a child, I hardly ever ate vegetables. I remember my mother eating a salad and of course, I had to taste what she was eating. The salad was very tasty and since then, I enjoy eating salads.

Grandma was notorious for making sure my brother and I ate our turnip greens (not my favorite at the time), but now I enjoy greens and it doesn’t matter what kind.

I thought it would be fun to list a few things that I know about vegetables. Feel free to take part in this exercise.

Our Favorite Mableton Blogger and Wife Teaches us how to Meal plan

Mableton, GA--

Friday’s Confession: Mastering Meal Planning Friday’s confession … I suck at meal planning.

Well, that’s not actually true. I understand and can meal plan just fine – they’re just the SAME meals over and over again.

Gasp!

While that’s fine for me, I could eat spaghetti and clam sauce five days a week, the other people who live with me aren’t exactly thrilled with the lack of variety.

Yesterday, Husband discovered my stash of cookbooks filled with enticing recipes ready to be thrown into rotation.

Busted. Read How She Mastered Meal Planning on her RunWifeyRun Blog.

Down Payment Assistance Still Available for Downtown HomeBuyers

Down Payment Assistance Still Available for Downtown HomeBuyers

Atlanta, GA--  (submitted by Office of Councilwoman Cleta Winslow)

What better gift for the holidays than your own new home?

Atlanta City Councilmember Cleta Winslow would like to remind potential homebuyers that monies are still available through the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Housing Authority for down payment assistance.

“There are communities particularly in District 4 that have houses readily available for purchase,” Winslow said. “These homes are ideal for raising a family and for first time homebuyers.”

The City of Atlanta, through the Atlanta Development Authority, has several programs that can provide down payment assistance toward the purchase of a home, a townhouse or condominium.

Join Councilman Hall for the Groundbreaking of a 4 Acre Urban Farm in O4W

Atlanta, GA--  City dwellers will soon be able to receive all the trappings of the country life with the addition of a new 4 acre urban garden.  The site will be called The Truly Living Well Wheat Street Garden and Mayor Reed and others will breakground on Sunday 12/5 at 2pm.

The site came into fruition via an agreement with the Wheat Street Baptist Church to lease the 4 acres in the historic Old 4th Ward.  The site is to serve as not only a working/profitable farm but also a learning center to help educate the surrounding community about healthy eating.

The site, which used to be a housing project, will now grow vegetables in regenerated soil, raised beds, greenhouses and hoop houses.

The work is being funded by generous investment from the Arthur M.Blank Foundation and the Environmental Protection Agency.
