Atlanta, GA--  Small Smiles Dental Center of Atlanta will offer free, post-Halloween dental screenings during Boo-tiful Smiles Day on Wednesday, November 3.  Small Smiles Dental Center provides dental care in the area for thousands of children from low-income families.

Atlanta,GA--  Fulton Health Services promotes breast cancer awareness and celebrate survivors at Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Event.  The theme, “Let’s Embrace & Dance to Wellness”, features ballroom dance demonstrations, breast cancer information and the Shades of Pink Breast Cancer Survivor’s Choir.  Free clinical breast exams also available.

Neighborhood Union Offers Education and Screenings to help Adults and Children to Keep Their Teeth

Atlanta, GA--  Fulton County Health Services and the Neighborhood Union Health Center want to reach the 30% of Georgians* who did not have their teeth cleaned in 2009.  The Neighborhood Union will host a Dental Hygiene Screening Day on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, from 8:30 a.m.

Accelerate the Cure Diabetes Walk This Weekend

ATLANTA -- Over 10,000 Georgians will walk this weekend to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

The Accelerate the Cure Walk to Cure Diabetes, benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), will hold two Atlanta-area walks:

Saturday, Oct. 16
8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Centennial Olympic Park (265 Park Avenue West, Atlanta, 30313)

Sunday, Oct. 17
1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Technology Park/Johns Creek (12000 Findley Road, Johns Creek, 30097)

On average, 38 Georgia children are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each month.

Fulton County Takes Preventive Health Services to Adults through Six SPARC Atlanta Clinics

Atlanta, GA--  SPARC Atlanta (Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration) clinics will bring preventive health services to Fulton County communities beginning Thursday, October 7, 2010.  The clinics specifically target low-income older adults.

SPARC clinics are much more than health fairs.  SPARC Atlanta is an innovative approach to increasing preventive health care service use among underserved persons.  Citizens who visit SPARC clinics take advantage of more than a dozen health screenings and education.  The clinics provide referrals when appropriate and track the actions and progress of those who attend.  Recognized as an evidence-based practice, SPARC has been replicated in different areas of the U.S.

The services provided this fall include:

  • Clinical breast exams, mammography and pap test referrals
  • Influenza, tetanus and pneumonia immunizations
  • STD/HIV Screenings

A Lunch Hour Walking Program That Includes Lunches and Helps the Bottom Line

Atlanta, GA--  All downtown Atlanta employees are invited to join Walk For Lunch as they partner together in downtown Atlanta for Walk For Lunch Program, a lunch hour walking program that includes Subway lunches.

It is a 8 day fitness program designed to encourage downtown companies, governments, and employees to walk approximately 2 miles a day, 2 days a week, along 4 suggested walking routes in downtown Atlanta (Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Routes), during the lunch hour. Each walker will receive a healthy lunch from Subway Restaurant, a walking map to Woodruff Park, a water bottle, an ID Badge, an opportunity to exercise with fellow employees and a chance to win our daily contest give-a-ways from Big Peach Running Co., Yogurt Tap, Max Lager’s, Dynamic Dish, Buckhead Life Group, Honey-du Concierge’s. The walk and lunch pick-up should take no more than 40 - 60 minutes.
