US Navy Week Kicks Off Today at The Georgia Aquarium

Atlanta, GA--  US Navy Day at the Georgia Aquarium gives children and adults a unique insight into the world of being a proud Navy officer.

Guests will get the opportunity to experience life in a submarine, as well as take to the sky in virtual Navy simulators. Guests will also be able to meet and greet sailors from the U.S.S. Georgia and watch Navy experts conduct diving demonstrations. If you never heard the Navy Rock band, they will be performing throughout the dayon the Navy Stage.

All this fun and information, which we rarely see in Atlanta, will be presented at the Georgia Aquarium today from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm.

The Georgia Aquarium is located at 225 Baker Street.

Volunteers From The Home Depot, KABOOM!, and the Butler St. YMCA Join Forces to Build new Playground

Atlanta, GA--  More than 300 volunteers from The Home Depot, the Bill Lucas YMCA Early Learning Center/Butler Street YMCA, and organizers from the nonprofit organization KaBOOM! will join together to build a state-of-the-art, 2,500 square foot playground in one day. The playground will provide a safe, fun environment for the children in the community.   

The playground is funded through a $98,740 grant from The Home Depot Foundation along with a $7,500 contribution from the Bill Lucas YMCA Early Learning Center/Butler Street YMCA. As a founding partner of KaBOOM!, The Home Depot provides financial support, materials and numerous volunteers for playground projects across North America as part of its ongoing commitment to give back to the communities its stores serve. Mayor Kasim Reed Announced the Opening of 3 Cultural Centers and AfterSchool Programs

Atlanta, GA--  Mayor Kasim Reed recently kicked off the reopening of the city’s closed three cultural centers.  Joined by Atlanta City Council members, Department of Parks Commissioner George Dusenbury and others, Mayor Reed shared his vision in transforming all 33 of the city’s recreation centers into “Centers of Hope.”

Atlanta Fire Stations 16 and 19 Host the 6th Annual FireED Up! Run/Walk for Higher Education

Atlanta, GA--  Atlanta Fire Rescue Department Fire Stations 16 and 19 are hosting the annual 5k race to help give scholarships to graduating seniors of Washington and Grady High Schools.

Through hosting the Christmas party at Fire Station 16, and the FirEd Up! 5K Race at Fire Station 19 many children have benefited from what have become anticipated annual events for the department.

Atlanta Mom Inventor Wins $15,000 Grant from Huggies

Atlanta, GA--  Kimberly Clark's Huggies brand has awarded Atlanta resident, Dr. Amy Baxter with 1 of its 12 $15,000 grants aimed to help fund and resource and "innovative, real-world product idea."

Selected from almost 400 applications, Dr. Baxter successfully demonstrated her unique childcare product idea to make life easier for moms and dads.  The Huggies MomInspired Grant Program was created to provide the resources and seed capital for moms to either turn turn their great ideas inspired by personal motherhood experience into successful businesses or help take their existing businesses to the next level.
