Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta Hosts Nov. 4 Youth of the Year Gala

Atlanta, Ga--  Youth of the Year is a year-round development program that honors Boys & Girls Club members as outstanding citizens and leaders. On Nov. 4, 21 metro Atlanta Club members will be honored and recognized, and one Club member will be named 2010 Youth of the Year and serve as the spokesperson for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA).

theme for the event is Face of Future because all 21 Youths of the Year represent the future of metro Atlanta. Scholarships will be awarded to the winner and three finalists. Evaluated criteria include demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles, essay writing, poise and public speaking.

Hosea Feed the Hungry & Homeless (HFTH) Hosts its Annual Holiday Season Kick-Off Event Nov. 1st

Atlanta, GA--  On Nov. 1, Hosea Feed the Hungry & Homeless (HFTH) will discuss Atlanta's homeless crisis, unemployment and a potential shortage this holiday season. With need increasing by 128%, Hosea expects to feed more than 40,000 on Thanksgiving Day alone.

Black Religious Scholars Group Holds 13th Annual Meeting on October 29th

Atlanta, GA--  The Black Religious Scholars Group’s (BRSG) thirteenth annual consultation entitled Making It Plain: Unmasking the Cultural Production of Evil in the Black Church and the World at Large,” is being held at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church located at 407 Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to the host church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, this event is co-hosted by the Candler School of Theology of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Urban League’s 2010 Economic Empowerment Tour: Restore Our Homes Housing Rescue Fair & Career Fair

Atlanta, GA--  The National Urban League’s 2010 Economic Empowerment Tour: Restore Our Homes: Housing Rescue Fair & Career Fair stops in Atlanta on Thursday, October 21.  Hosted by the Atlanta Urban League, the event is free for all attendees and participating businesses. The one-stop housing and employment event is designed to provide direct, grassroots help to those facing the threat of home foreclosure and/or needing help finding employment.

Atlanta Streets Alive on Sunday, October 17th

Park your car, this weekend and participate in the Atlanta Streets Alive, a car-free festival in downtown Atlanta Sunday, October 17, from 1 until 6 p.m. on in-town streets. The kickoff ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. at Woodruff Park.

The event will temporarily close Edgewood Avenue to cars and open the street to people from Woodruff Park to Randolph Street.  From walking and biking to street dancing and living art performances, residents and visitors will experience downtown in a new way.

Atlanta Streets Alive was inspired by the ciclovia in Colombia, where city streets are closed to car traffic to allow people to participate in all kinds of free health and community-oriented events. The first Atlanta Streets Alive event, in May 2010, attracted an estimated 5,000 participants.

15th Annual Cheer for Children Ball Will be Held November 5 at Atlanta History Center

The Georgia Center for Child Advocacy today announced the date for its annual fundraiser, the Cheer for Children Ball.  The 15th annual fundraiser will be held Friday, November 5, from 7- 11 p.m.
