Need Help Paying Bills? Utility Assistance is Now Available

Fulton County, GA-- (submitted by Alonia Jernigan)  Record numbers of families needing financial assistance depleted Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) resources much earlier than anticipated. However, the Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority (FACAA) has received additional funding and will begin accepting applications again beginning February 1st.  According to Yvonne Thomas, FACAA’s Vice President of Programs, funds will be available through March 15th or until funds are exhausted.  Due to extreme need, many families have stood in long lines for hours at a time hoping to gain assistance. To remedy this situation, FACAA will see eligible Atlanta and Fulton County residents by APPOINTMENT ONLY.

There are several locations wherein individuals can submit an application for assistance:

Mableton, GA--

Friday’s Confession: Mastering Meal Planning Friday’s confession … I suck at meal planning.

Well, that’s not actually true. I understand and can meal plan just fine – they’re just the SAME meals over and over again.

Gasp!

While that’s fine for me, I could eat spaghetti and clam sauce five days a week, the other people who live with me aren’t exactly thrilled with the lack of variety.

Yesterday, Husband discovered my stash of cookbooks filled with enticing recipes ready to be thrown into rotation.

Got Milk? Interactive FREE Family Event in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA--  (submitted by Weber Shandwick)

The national Milk Mustache got milk? Campaign is bringing the “Pour One More” event to Atlanta to encourage moms to build strong families and close America’s nutrient gap with milk. It might surprise you to learn that more than 9 out of 10 Americans aren’t getting key nutrients they need. Milk provides 9 key nutrients in every glass, including vitamin D, potassium and calcium, which most Americans are missing. And milk is naturally nutrient rich like no other beverage so just one more serving of low fat milk a day may be all it takes to help close the nutrient gap so you can build a strong family. The campaign will host a free, interactive event on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 11 A.M. - 2 P.M.

Atlanta, GA--  The snow and ice storm of 2011 has shut down the schools and hundreds of neighborhood streets, but as you have seen on 11Alive, sledding and building snowmen has become a new favorite passtime for many Atlantans.  Another unique attraction is Centennial Olympic Park which has become a winter wonderland to many as the Ice Skating Rink now gives children and adults a magical, snow experience on Ice.

The Ice Rink is located right next to the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, Phillips Arena, the CNN Center and many of the downtown areas top hotels.  It is the only outdoor ice skating rink we have in the Atlanta area, and with all of the snow, it has truly been turned into a magical winterwonderland.

The rink which opened for the Christmas holidays will be open until January 30th.  For those who want a chance to sled and ice skate and feel like you have been transported from the South to the North Pole, you are encourag
