Atlanta Streets Alive on Sunday, October 17th

The event will temporarily close Edgewood Avenue to cars and open the street to people from Woodruff Park to Randolph Street.  From walking and biking to street dancing and living art performances, residents and visitors will experience downtown in a new way.

Atlanta Streets Alive was inspired by the ciclovia in Colombia, where city streets are closed to car traffic to allow people to participate in all kinds of free health and community-oriented events. The first Atlanta Streets Alive event, in May 2010, attracted an estimated 5,000 participants.

FMSA Partners With Habersham Gardens

First Montessori School of Atlanta and Habersham Gardens recently welcomed the fall planting season with a special art exhibit. Students, ages 6-14, displayed more than 100 colorful pieces of art and paper pinwheels throughout the garden center.

Students wrote their thoughts about war, peace, tolerance and living in harmony with others on one side of the pinwheels. On the other side, they drew, painted or collaged something that expressed their feelings about the subjects.

"We teach students at First Montessori School of Atlanta that they are stewards of the environment," says Head of School Jerri King. "Habersham Gardens provided a natural and beautiful backdrop for showcasing the students' work."
