Ed Sheeran coming to Philips Arena in September

ATLANTA -- Ed Sheeran will bring the second leg of his North American tour to Atlanta this fall.

Sheeran will perform at Philips Arena on Saturday, Sept. 12. His tour kicks off Sept. 3 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Tickets for the Atlanta show go on sale Friday, Apr. 17 at noon. They can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, the Philips Arena box office, or by calling 800-745-3000. Many shows from Sheeran's summer tour sold out in minutes.

Ed Sheeran Fan Club members and American Express holders can buy tickets before the general public beginning Monday, Apr. 13 at 10 a.m.

ATLANTA -- Spring has sprung! To celebrate the new season, the Children’s Museum of Atlanta is hosting a full month of educational programming, special events and engaging exhibits for families to enjoy. Whether they are making their own Easter bonnets during “Meet The Holidays: Easter,” practicing eco-friendly habits in the “Super Kids Save the World” exhibit or stirring up some culinary cheer in the “Cooking With Colors” series, children can learn through the power of play! Below is a schedule of exhibit information and special programming for April 2015.

ATLANTA -- Spelman College Museum of Fine Art will host Connecting the Dots: The Heidelberg Project and the Power of Art, a special conversation with Aku Kadogo, international theater director, choreographer, educator, creative producer of cultural arts projects and Spelman Distinguished Visiting Scholar of the Arts, and Tyree Guyton, creator of the renowned Heidelberg Project of Detroit, Thursday, Mar. 26, at 6:30 p.m.

Acting on his vision many years ago, Guyton set out to respond to a city that was in a state of disrepair and despondency.  Now in its 30th year, The Heidelberg Project is a thriving arts organization that aims to inspire and enrich all those who experience it.

Children’s Museum of Atlanta raises over $227,000 at Amuse’um benefit

ATLANTA -- A crowd of more than 500 adult attendees had a blast at The Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s 12th annual Amuse’um 2015: Under Construction benefit, held on Saturday, Feb. 28. The signature event, presented by Georgia Natural Gas, raised more than $227,000 to support the Museum’s early childhood educational programming and community outreach through ticket sales and silent and live auctions.

“We really hit the nail on the head with this one!” said Jane Turner, executive director of The Children’s Museum of Atlanta. “We could not be more thrilled with the continued success of our annual Amuse’um benefit. We truly are so grateful for the amazing enthusiasm from the community and for the generous donations from all our committed partners. It is because of their ongoing support that The Children’s Museum of Atlanta is able to provide more impactful exhibits and educational programming for children, families and schools throughout the state.”

Spelman College Kenyetta Festival of Women in Jazz celebrates Nina Simone

ATLANTA -- The music and civil rights activism of legendary singer/songwriter Nina Simone will be celebrated at the 5th Kenyetta: A Festival of Women in Jazz at Spelman College, March 26-28, with a series of presentations, lectures and musical performances, including a featured concert by the Geri Allen Trio with special guest artist Carmen Lundy.

“Nina Simone represents the epitome of the complete musician/activist, from the classical-trained pianist, to a composer whose music addresses the Black woman’s experience in America,” said Joseph Jennings, Spelman College artist emeritus in music and festival organizer.

Commissioner Emma I. Darnell to Host Cedar Grove Community Meeting to Discuss New Fire Station

Fulton County Commissioner Emma I. Darnell, District 6 and the  Fulton County Fire Rescue Department will hold a community meeting on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm at the Cedar Grove Community Center, 9285 Cedar Grove Road, Fairburn, Georgia 30213 to discuss the planned Design Build of a new Fulton County Fire Station #15 that will be located at 6351 Cedar Grove Road in Fairburn, GA 30213.

 

Attendees will hear from Fulton County Fire Chief Larry Few as well as other county employees dedicated to service in Unincorporated South Fulton. They will also have an opportunity to ask questions concerning fire safety and protection in their community.

Fulton County to offers lactation and nutrition education classes

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The journey to motherhood is different for every woman. Usually, the first decision she will make as a mom will be how to feed her child.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension, in partnership with WellCare, will sponsor lactation and nutrition education classes to provide facts about breastfeeding and to give practical tips on how to make breastfeeding work while getting the support every mother needs. Pre-registration is required.

The classes will take place at 10 a.m. in the Cooperative Extension office which is located on the first floor of the Central Atlanta Library, One Margaret Mitchell Square, Suite 109, Atlanta. Classes will be held:

* Thursday, April 23
* Thursday, May 14
* Thursday, October 15
