Crime Stoppers Atlanta and Atlanta Public Schools to Launch Campus Crime Stoppers

Atlanta, GA--  Atlanta Public Schools, in partnership with Crime Stoppers Atlanta, will launch a new crime fighting program aimed at getting high school students and their parents involved in the crime prevention effort.

The new program encourages students, parents, school-based faculty and staff to proactively report crimes and criminal activity to the Crime Stoppers Atlanta organization through the group’s Web site, by text message or by telephone.  Tipsters have the option of remaining anonymous, and cash rewards are provided to those whose information leads to an arrest and indictment.

Campus Crime Stoppers will be launched at a news conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Douglass High School, 225 H.E.

APD is Seeking the Public's Help in Identifying a Robbery Suspect who struck at GSU

Atlanta, GA--  On August 19, 2010 at approximately 9:22 p.m., Stephanie Blocker was walking from work near the Ga. State University campus. She was approached by an unknown B/M with a gun on John Wesley Dobbs between Courtland and Peachtree Center St. The suspect is described as a young black male wearing blue jeans, white t-shirt and black shoes. The suspect took her bag and ran from the location. The victim advises that she has seen the suspect before at the school.

Early Morning Downtown ATM Theft Leads to Chase and Crash in SW Atlanta

Atlanta, GA--  Around 5 a.m. this morning three men stole an ATM from from a downtown business at Ivan Allen Boulevard and West Peachtree Street, according to police.

As the suspects loaded up a black suburban with the ATM, they were spotted by police and a chase began with ATM in tow.  Police say that the 3 men led them on a high speed chase throughout downtown and into a SW Atlanta neighborhood where a Georgia State Patrol trooper used a pit maneuver to stop them and forced them to crash into a fence on Hendrix Street. 

All 3 were arrested and the ATM was recovered in the back of the SUV. No injuries were reported.

Thieves Ram Vehicle into Downtown Store

Atlanta, GA-- Smash and Grab bandits drove a van into 'Sports City" early Wednesday, breaking through a roll-up cage and shattering the store's glass door and window.

Atlanta police said the 3 or 4 men who rushed inside the store, located at 87 Peachtree Street NW, grabbed clothing and shoes before driving away.

A witness who saw the entire event, chased after the vehicle to get a description. Police are looking for a burgundy Ford van with heavy damage to the rear-end.

GSU Student Among 2 Men Killed in Apartment Shooting

ATLANTA -- A Georgia State University student was one of two men killed in a gated apartment complex in Southeast Atlanta on Sunday.

The student, 21-year-old Samuel Blizzard, Jr. of Virginia, and 26-year-old Calvin Streater of Atlanta were both shot in the head.

Police found one man in the front room and the other in a bedroom of the same unit at the Station at Richmond Hill apartments on Richmond Circle off Jonesboro Road shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday.

Piedmont Bank Robber Arrested. Viewer Recognizes Man from ATM Photo and Calls Police

Atlanta, GA-- Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Brian D. Lamkin, FBI Atlanta, in conjunction with the Atlanta Police Department, announces the arrest of the following individual, responsible for September 9, 2010 robbery of the Chase Bank, located at 3330 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, Georgia.

Abdul Khaliq Amin, age 52, was arrested after an FBI SWAT entry was made at a Decatur, Georgia residence earlier this morning.  A crucial tip from a viewer of a local area television station broadcasting photographs of the robber prior to donning his robbery mask was considered instrumental in today’s arrest.

Amin will have his initial appearance before a U.S.

Clark Atlanta University Names Thomas Y. Trawick Jr. New Chief of Police

ATLANTA (SEPTEMBER 3)—Clark Atlanta University (CAU) President Carlton E. Brown today announced the appointment of Thomas Y. Trawick Jr., a decorated law enforcement and retired non-commissioned military officer, as the University’s new chief of police and director of emergency management, effective October 1, 2010. 

 

                        Trawick was selected from a field of 25 applicants in a national search, resulting in a pool of five candidates who were interviewed by members of the University’s Public Safety Department, faculty, staff and students.  As one of two finalists in the process, Trawick was again introduced in an August 20 open forum where he was questioned by University faculty, staff and students.
