Fourth murder in three months on same street

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Along McDaniel Street, near Atlanta's Castleberry Hill neighborhood, crime is a common occurrence.

But what has happened in the last few months has even Atlanta Police befuddled.

Saturday night's triple shooting is the latest to strike the area. Donovan Thomas, 27, was killed. Two others, including a 14-year-old boy, were also shot.

"It appears the victims were the intended target, the motive right now is unknown," said Lt. Charles Hampton, Homicide Commander for APD.

It's on the same street where three other murders have happened recently.

On Oct. 7, 62-year-old Obie Phillips was shot and killed in front of the JVC Grocery Store on McDaniel Street in an apparent drive-by. Police say he wasn't the intended victim.

A month later, on Nov. 15, 21-year-old Nicholas Green was killed while riding with his brother.

A week after that shooting, 22-year-old Demetrius Davis was gunned down in front of that same grocery store.

Police say Davis and the most recent victim, Thomas, were targeted.

Further complicating matters, in each case, police are still searching for suspects and a motive.

Neighbors say they've noticed an uptick in gang violence, but they're not sure if the murders are all connected or just a tragic coincidence.
