Ex-DFCS counselor charged with child molestation

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A former counselor for the Division of Family and Children Services is accused of sexually assaulting a teen girl in his home.

Earl Hopper, 39, has been charged with rape, child molestation and enticing a child. Jury selection is underway in Fulton County for his trial.

Hopper worked as a counselor to the victim's siblings and volunteered to counsel her as well. Prosecutors said that on Nov. 10, 2011, Hopper picked up the girl from her home and took her to his house, where he gave her alcohol and sexually assaulted her.

The victim immediately told her mother about the assault, according to prosecutors. Hopper was arrested the next day.

Opening statements in Hopper's trial are expected to begin Tuesday afternoon.
