Atlanta Hawks & 11Alive: Random Act of Kindness

Atlanta Hawks & 11Alive: Random Act of Kindness

ATLANTA, Ga. -- For today's random act of kindness, 11Alive and the Atlanta Hawks teamed up to provide nearly 100 Christmas trees to military families around Georgia.

This week, 11Alive's parking lot transformed into a Christmas tree stand thanks to a very special random act of kindness by the Atlanta Hawks.

The Atlanta Hawks worked directly with the USO to identify 89 military families in need of some holiday cheer. The number 89 represents Kyle Korver 's 89 consecutive three pointers.

Right now, the NBA record for consecutive three pointers is 89 and everyone is hoping Kyle will break the record this Friday and make history.

Andrea Carter, the Atlanta Hawks' Community Development Director, says this is their unique way of giving back and honoring Kyle. The Atlanta Hawks also gave each family tickets to a Hawks game this season.

Random Acts of Kindness: Linda DuBose

Random Acts of Kindness: Linda DuBose

ATLANTA -- Today's random act of kindness is for Linda DuBose.

Linda is a woman with an incredibly huge heart. She's recently made some big life changes and adopted her nieces and nephew who now call her mom. Some of these changes included her stepping down from a management position at PetSmart, so she could take care of the kids.

Linda tries to make each day count with fun activities and experiences for them to enjoy. She recently took the kids to the World of Coca-Cola but could not get tickets for them to see the aquarium.

Thanks to a generous donation from Georgia Aquarium, 11Alive was able to present this family with an experience they'll never forget.

Holy Innocents' outpaces U.S. schools in JDRF Fall Walk

Holy Innocents' outpaces U.S. schools in JDRF Fall Walk

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School (HIES) is not just walking this Saturday, Oct. 19, for a cure for type 1 diabetes. The school community has been racing—earning the distinction of being the highest grossing school in the nation for six consecutive years in the JDRF FAll Walk to Cure Diabetes.

HIES officially ran away with JDRF Fall Walk honors again in 2012 by raising an impressive $50,478.00—and two students were named to the top five list of individual student contributors: Andrew Earle ’13 and Anna Kampfe ’15 (both of whom have diabetes).

“We are impressed and honored by the dedicated efforts of students at Holy Innocents’, and particularly of Andrew and Anna,” says John Vranas, JDRF’s vice president, fundraising programs. “It is the passion and dedication of these young people that motivates others to support us in our efforts to bring about a world without type 1 diabetes.”
