Agape Community Center Launches Backpack Drive | Community Spirit
Agape Community Center puts out the call to collect over 1,000 backpacks for students in need in Atlanta.
Agape Community Center has launched a campaign to collect and distribute 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to children of all ages in economically challenged neighborhoods. Agape is calling on the community, through neighborhoods, corporations, book clubs, churches, sports teams and social groups, to donate 1,000 backpacks for the kids by July 25.
First Montessori School of Atlanta, located at 5750 Long Island Drive, will serve as one of the drop-off locations.
"We're proud to partner with the Agape Community Center on this important community endeavor," said First Montessori School of Atlanta Head of School Jerri King. “New pristine supplies help to capture children’s excitement for the new school year. Excitement is a great building block for having a strong year in school."
“On backpack distribution day the families begin lining up at 7:30 a.m. for a noon distribution,” said Agape Executive Director Nell Benn. “The length of the line and amount of time parents are willing to wait to receive a backpack for their kids is an unfortunate, but powerful testimonial to what many Atlanta families are experiencing financially.”
