Thrashers may be one step closer to not moving to Canada

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Thrashers just may be one step closer to new owners who will keep them here instead of packing up and moving north of the border.

Last week according to a number of reports, non-disclosure agreements were signed and submitted by two groups looking at buying the Thrashers, and quite possibly the Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena, all with the intent of keeping them in Atlanta.

Civil Rights Museum to Break Ground in Fall

Civil Rights Museum to Break Ground in Fall

Atlanta, GA--  (AP)  A new civil rights museum in Atlanta is scheduled to break ground in October.

Chief Executive Officer Doug Shipman says the National Center for Civil and Human Rights is a scaled-down version of the original 90,000-square-foot design that was estimated to cost about $125 million. The new design will cost about $100 million and will be 63,000 square feet.

Shipman says the museum has raised more than $73 million towards its goal of having $85 million to begin construction, including a $1 million grant announced Monday from The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. The museum will launch a public campaign this summer aimed at individual fundraising.

Much of the project's current funding has come from corporate donors, including Delta Air Lines, The Coca-Cola Co. and The Home Depot Foundation.
