Volunteers From The Home Depot, KABOOM!, and the Butler St. YMCA Join Forces to Build new Playground

Atlanta, GA--  More than 300 volunteers from The Home Depot, the Bill Lucas YMCA Early Learning Center/Butler Street YMCA, and organizers from the nonprofit organization KaBOOM! will join together to build a state-of-the-art, 2,500 square foot playground in one day. The playground will provide a safe, fun environment for the children in the community.

The playground is funded through a $98,740 grant from The Home Depot Foundation along with a $7,500 contribution from the Bill Lucas YMCA Early Learning Center/Butler Street YMCA. As a founding partner of KaBOOM!, The Home Depot provides financial support, materials and numerous volunteers for playground projects across North America as part of its ongoing commitment to give back to the communities its stores serve. As official Sustainability Partners, The Home Depot and KaBOOM! work to make sure each playground project is as environmentally friendly as possible as well as educating children and communities about this important issue.  For this project, all materials will be recycled and any unused materials remaining after the completion of the build will be donated to other organizations.

The Bill Lucas Southside YMCA is a part of the Butler Street YMCA system, an independent organization associated with the YMCA of Greater Atlanta. The Bill Lucas Early Learning Center is a state licensed child development center serving children ages 2-to-12. Activities are structured to accommodate both working and non-working parents, offering children a chance to grow and develop in a positive, structured setting. The existing playground at the YMCA is more than 30 years old and does not meet the needs of the children on site. A new playground will enhance the social, emotional and physical lives of the children at the Bill Lucas YMCA, providing a perfect location for them to make friends, develop self-confidence, and build fine and gross motor skills.
