Events, Health

Atlanta, GA--  Hundreds of Atlanta Homeless will recieve a day of healthy checkups, food, companionship and general attention.

Lazarus Ministries will partner with SafeHouse Outreach for its fourth annual Health Day with the Homeless in Atlanta September 19. Volunteers including doctors, nurses, beauticians and Spanish translators will be available at SafeHouse Outreach on Ellis Street between Peachtree Center Avenue and Courtland Street. This section of Ellis Street will be closed for the event.

Health Day consists of complimentary health examinations, haircuts and manicures, clothing, food and entertainment. In the past, as many as 600 people who are homeless participated in Health Day. That number is expected to double this year. SafeHouse Outreach offers health services weekly and agrees that that more people are seeking accessible services.

According to Allison Mitchell, executive director of Lazarus Ministries, “The homeless are so used to being overwhelmed by need, but at Health Day we want them to be overwhelmed by abundance. We want to do more than meet physical and mental health needs by trying to improve their emotional, relational, and spiritual needs, as well.”

Philip Bray, president and founder of SafeHouse Outreach, said,  “The need for accessible health services is great in the city of Atlanta. Being able to collaborate with Lazarus to meet some of these needs is a win-win for everyone. Lazarus truly cares about the homeless, which is evident throughout the entire day.”

Sponsors for the event include Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee, the Shirt Off My Back Campaign, International Innovations, MailChimp, the Tensar Corporation, the Wesleyan School, GREYSTAR Real Estate Partners, Chris and Ava Barnes, Erin and Brent Wyper, Bruce Hanft, Ryan Harbry, Frances Grant, Ryan Crawford, and Anne Fleming.
