The City of Atlanta’s troubled economy and high unemployment have been the driving forces behind an unprecedented increase in the demand for food assistance. To help feed families in need this holiday season, the Atlanta City Council held a holiday community food campaign in December. More than 2,000 items were collected and more items are coming in. All of the items will be delivered Wednesday, December 22nd to the Atlanta Community Food Bank and Hosea Feed the Homeless and Hungry.

“We’re very grateful to the Atlanta City Council and the community for supporting our efforts this holiday season,” said Bill Bolling, Founder and Executive Director of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “With the distribution of food and grocery products to our partner agencies up more than 30 percent last year, we know it will take everyone’s help to meet the continued demand.”

With the holidays right around the corner, and the cold winter months looming, officials anticipate that even more Atlantans will turn to food pantries for help.
