For the second year in a row, Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall is partnering with the Sweet Auburn Curb Market to deliver decorated trees and baskets of fresh produce to families in Council District 2 who could use some extra joy during the holiday season.

And thanks to a partnership with Bicycle Tours of Atlanta www.biketoursatl.com, Hall is pleased to announce that trees donated to families with children between the ages of 10 and 18 will include bicycle ornaments that can be redeemed for free bikes and helmets after each child completes a three-hour bicycle education course.

Councilmember Kwanza Hall and Atlanta Police Department Zone 5 Commander Khirus Williams, two of Santa’s faithful helpers, will personally deliver the decorated Trees of Joy on December 22, with the help of Zipcar www.zipcar.com.

Last year, Hall delivered trees and produce to a dozen families in downtown’s Centennial Place community. This year, the program will benefit the families of Operation P.E.A.C.E., a nonprofit organization that provides after-school programs for youth in the Bedford-Pine community, in Atlanta’s historic Old Fourth Ward.

The community is invited to come out and decorate a tree to be given away for a chance to win prizes.

“Bring a group of friends or office colleagues down to the market by Monday, December 20, and decorate a tree for a great cause,” said Hall. Teams of volunteers from all over Atlanta are invited to come to the market, purchase a fresh-cut fir or balsam tree, and decorate the tree with their own lights and ornaments. The three teams with the best decorated trees will win prizes. Last year, participants included neighborhood associations, student organizations, and office groups. Hall invites teams to support market vendors by buying lunch or refreshments on site while they decorate.

The Sweet Auburn Curb Market is located at 209 Edgewood Avenue SE, Atlanta, GA 30303. Hours of operation are Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 pm. Please contact the market manager in advance of arriving with your team, to ensure that a tree is ready for you to decorate: info@SweetAuburnCurbMarket.com
