City of Atlanta Hosts Local Food Day with Farmers Market and Edible Garden Unveiling

WHAT:

City Hall will host a Local Food Day, featuring a farmer’s market and “Lunch and Learn” for city employees at 11:00 a.m. The event highlights the city’s effort to bring local food within 10 minutes of 75 percent of Atlanta’s residents by 2020.

Local Food Day at City Hall is one of the many events during the City of Atlanta’s Sustainability Week, which began Monday when Mayor Kasim Reed announced “Power to Change” – the City of Atlanta’s sustainability plan.

Farmers Market

Local farmers and other vendors will have on hand produce, coffees, ice cream, and other local products that are sure to please your pallet!

Edible Garden Unveiling

There will also be an unveiling of City Hall’s Edible Rooftop Garden. We’re planting broccoli, lettuce, rosemary and other kitchen favorite’s right here at City Hall.

Lunch and Learn

Georgia Organics will be hosting a brief Employee Lunch and Learn Presentation covering the health benefits of consuming local foods, how growing and buying locally can help the environment, and the economic impact our purchasing choices make.
