GSU: Student drug dealer, potential teen buyer shot on campus

ATLANTA  — Two teenagers were shot during what police said was a drug deal in a Georgia State University dormitory parking lot in downtown Atlanta Monday evening. One other person was taken into custody by authorities in the incident. 

It happened in the parking lot of the Piedmont North dormitory at the corner of Piedmont Avenue and Ellis Street. 

Georgia State University Police Deputy Chief Carlton Mullis said Shelton Torance Flournoy II, 19 and Jalyn Isaiah Knight, 18 drove parked their blue Honda Accord in the parking lot of the dormitory.

Then, Mullis said, armed GSU student Bryan Rhoden came out of the dorm and walked up to the car to sell the two people inside the car one pound of marijuana.  The driver of the car, Flournoy, was also armed.  Rhoden, Mullis said, got into the back seat of the car.

Suspect fleeing police struck by vehicle outside Philips Arena

ATLANTA (WXIA) – A suspect fleeing from police was struck by a vehicle on Centennial Olympic Park Drive outside Philips Arena in downtown Atlanta at about 4:30 Friday afternoon.

Atlanta Police said that while the suspect was being placed inside the transport van parked on Centennial Olympic Park Drive, the suspect, while handcuffed, broke free from police custody and attempted to flee. The suspect ran into traffic, where he was struck by a passing motorist. 

Investigators said the suspect was bleeding from the head and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta in extremely critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation. 


Arrest made in quadruple shooting in downtown Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Atlanta police have made an arrest in a shooting that injured four people in downtown Atlanta.

The shooting happened late Wednesday night outside of J.R. Crickets on Poplar and Forsyth Streets, close to Georgia State University.

Authorities say an argument inside the restaurant spilled out into the streets, where shots were fired.

Four shot near Georgia State campus

ATLANTA -- Police are investigating a quadruple shooting near the Georgia State University campus in downtown Atlanta.

Details are limited at this time but police have said that the shooting resulted from an attempted robbery.

The shooting apparently happened at the J.R. Crickets bar the corner of Forsyth and Poplar streets.

A woman told police her wallet had been stolen and that she was coming back when the shooting happened.

The entire street near the scene has been taped off and a number of police cruisers are visible in the area as police try to piece together exactly what happened.

At this point, it's unclear who started the shooting first but one of them actually attempted to get on a Georgia State University bus after being shot. Our crews at the scene have learned that's when a gun fell out of his pocket. 

Donald Trump to appear Sunday at World Congress Center in Atlanta

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will be holding an event at the Georgia World Congress Center Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Trump's appearance will come on the heels of the South Carolina Republican Primary on Saturday. Trump currently leads the field of six major GOP candidates going into the this weekend's South Carolina Primary, according to USA Today, with 32.5 percent, over his nearest rivals, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, statistically tied for second place at 19.8 and 19.5 percent, respectively. 

John Kasich and Ben Carson are tied for fourth, each with 6 percent, while Jeb Bush is in sixth place with 4.8 percent. 

'Better' sketch released of suspect in GSU library robberies

ATLANTA -- Officials at Georgia State University are addressing questions about campus security after they say the same person robbed students at gunpoint multiple times in the University's library.

Thursday, they released a new sketch and are now offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of the man accused of stealing laptops and cellphones from students in the library. In all five students have been robbed at the library.

Two weeks ago, officials released a sketch of the suspect but said the new one is more accurate.

GSU President Mark Becker and Mullis took questions from the audience and on social media, during the panel discussion.
